FAQs

Oceanbox has a global network which means we can facilitate the repositioning of shipping containers anywhere you need. This, of course, may be subject to certain economic, regional or political restrictions.

With our well established international network of depots strategically positioned all over the world, you can be sure of a very short lead time on your shipping container. However, we generally advise a delivery of 3 days to up to one week, subject to availability.

In many countries, shipping containers are able to be repurposed for temporary accommodation buildings with no planning permission. However, if the container is to be a permanent dwelling, planning permission may need to be sought from your local planning authority.

Whilst we do not provide modification services ourselves, we will happily put you in touch with specialists who have a wealth of experience in modifying containers. We will simply provide them with the container and they will do the rest.

Yes, we do all the time. Oceanbox is a global specialist in the supply of shipping containers. We manage orders for global freight companies, requiring hundreds of containers at a time.

Shipping containers are manufactured with high grade steel which will hardly deteriorate over a 50yr life-span. We would always recommend new-build containers over second-hand containers, which may require a little extra attention over time.

Oceanbox provides many types and sizes of container. Each has different tare weights (ie. the weight when empty).
Typical tare weights are:
2.3 tonne (20ft)
3.7 tonnes (40ft)
4.8 tonnes (45ft)

Oceanbox can also provide you with platforms and flat racks for out-of-gauge cargo. These can be supplied for both 20ft and 40ft sizes.

That accolade goes to Malcolm McLean, an American businessman, who in the 1950s and with a sizeable $22million bank loan, changed international trade forever. If you would like to know more, we have written this article about him.
